Hoke High School softball wins final home game
by Thomas H. McKinney
The Hoke High School girls' softball team won an exciting 10-9 victory over Seventy-First High School in the team's final home game of the season.
With the score tied 9-9 in the bottom of the 7th inning, Cassie Chavis knocked a clutch hit into right field to drive in Dacia Moore from third base to score the winning run.
Two key defensive plays by Brittany White (3B) in the top of the 7th inning prevented Seventy-First from gaining the lead. She raced in to grab a bunt before the ball touched the ground, then moments later chased down a base runner from third to second base before making a quick toss to Dacia Moore (2B) who tagged out the sliding runner.
In the 5th inning, Brenita Jones hit a line drive to right field that drove in Kay Brigman and Ivey Lowry. Brittany Jacobs and Jasmine Brown also collected RBIs in the 5th inning, driving in Dacia Moore and Brenita Jones.
The team's final game of the season is at Jack Britt High School on Tuesday, May 8th.
