East Hoke Girls' Softball Team Wins Thriller

by Thomas H. McKinney

The East Hoke Middle School girls' softball team won a thrilling 18-17 extra inning victory over Sycamore in Thursday afternoon's home game.

Head coach Steffani Gass, and assistant coaches Nora Gray and Sheila Hollingsworth, had reason to be proud as the Eagles kept battling back each time they slipped behind in the exciting back-and-forth struggle.

Keisha Vanner raced across home plate to score the winning run on a clutch hit by Whitney Poe in the bottom of the 8th inning.

Cicley Hollingsworth demonstrated great endurance as she pitched the entire eight innings for the Eagles. Jasmine Galbreth made a highlight defensive play as she dove to stop a hard-hit ground ball to her left side in the 6th inning.

The team's next game is on Monday, April 30th, at home against Spring Hill, starting at 4 pm.
