from our "Schools & Education" Desk
Four East Hoke Middle School students, Steven McCarty (trombone), Gabrielle Owens (flute), Monique Serrano (clarinet), and Katie Chapman (French horn), performed at UNC-Pembroke's Performance Arts Center on March 17th.
The students, taught by East Hoke Middle School Band Director Denise Wallace, were selected by UNC-Pembroke officials from lists submitted by area band directors.
The public music perfomance was held in the evening, after the students had spent the day in rehearsals with guest conductors, preparing music they had never seen before.
The band directors for the music festival were Ms. Liz Hasty, Band Director at Sycamore Lane Middle School, and Ms. Felicia McNaught, Band Director at Stedman Middle School.
