Home Runs lift Kings Mountain to 6-5 win

Return to Dunn Baseball Tournament Main Page

Dallas Conner and Gary Bennett smash homers in 6th inning rally

by Tom McKinney

The Kings Mountain baseball team gave Dunn a taste of their own medicine by using some last-inning home run heroics to pull off a 6-5 victory on Monday evening in Dunn, NC. Dunn had used a last inning home run on Sunday evening to stun Hope Mills 13-11. Trailing Dunn in the last inning on Monday evening, Dallas Conner of Kings Mountain smacked a home run with Wil Sellers on base to tie the game. Just as the celebrating Kings Mountain players had settled back in the dugout and some fans had begun talking about extra innings, Gary Bennett walked up to home plate and drilled the winning home run for Kings Mountain. As Kings Mountain fans celebrated, the stunned Dunn fans walked, even stumbled, out to the parking lot, perhaps understanding more clearly how Hope Mills felt on Sunday evening.
