Hoke Baseball Drops Doubleheader

2nd game has some strong innings after sleepy play in 1st game

by Tom McKinney

Watching the Hoke baseball team in the first game of a doubleheader in Laurinburg on Saturday morning reminded me of why I drink a cup of coffee every morning before work.

It also reminded me of why my wife and I never give any substantive work assignments to our teenage kids on Saturday mornings.

The Hoke team played the early-starting game half asleep and fell so far behind in the first inning that it seemed as though someone should just go ahead and distribute pillows to the dugout.

The team, playing with key players missing, seemed to come to life in the second game of the doubleheader as they got off to a strong start and played with more purpose and energy.

However, it was not enough to hold off a determined Scotland team that was able to walk off the field with two wins, 12-1 and 10-2, to avenge their conference loss to Hoke earlier this month in Raeford.

The team's next home game is on Thursday, June 21st, at Hoke High School.
